Introducing Polar and Mollie

Polar and Mollie are payment methods on Subscriby from today, in Subscriby 5.1.0. Open Payment Methods in any project, press Setup a Payment Method, and two new cards sit beside Stripe and PayPal: Polar, a merchant of record that collects the payment, handles sales tax and VAT and pays you out in more than 120 countries, and Mollie, the rails Europe pays with: iDEAL, SEPA Direct Debit, Bancontact, cards and PayPal. Both renew plans on their own, both take coupon codes on one-time and recurring plans, and both settle in your own account, as every gateway on Subscriby does.
Here is the one-sentence version: nine gateways now, six of them renewing on their own, and the two new ones reach the creators Stripe cannot onboard and the members a card-only checkout loses.
Polar: a Merchant of Record
Polar is the seller on every transaction. The buyer pays Polar, Polar calculates and remits the tax in the buyer’s country, issues the receipt, handles the refund when one is due, and pays you the proceeds through its own payout rail, in countries where a creator cannot open a Stripe account at all. You never register for VAT somewhere because a member there bought a plan.
- One token, nothing else. Paste an organization access token from Polar’s developer settings, switch the method on and save. Subscriby registers the webhook endpoint on your organization itself the first time your plans sync, and verifies every delivery with the secret Polar issued.
- Your plans become Polar products. Sync Subscription Plans pushes every plan on sale: a recurring plan as a product that renews on the plan’s cycle, a lifetime plan as a one-time product, in any of the 36 currencies Polar presents. Later changes are pushed on their own, and a plan taken off sale is archived on Polar’s side.
- Renewals run on Polar’s side. Polar charges every cycle and retries a failed renewal on its own schedule; Subscriby mirrors what it reports, so a past-due renewal opens the member’s grace period and a cancellation keeps access to the end of the paid period.
- Coupons on both plan shapes. A code applied at checkout becomes a once-only Polar discount for that purchase, so a recurring plan is discounted on its first charge and renews at full price.
- A sandbox to try it in. Create the token at sandbox.polar.sh, add Polar as a Test method, and pay a real checkout with Stripe’s test card before you connect the production token beside it.
Mollie: Europe’s Rails
A Dutch member reaches for iDEAL, a German one for SEPA, a Belgian one for Bancontact, and a card-only checkout turns each of them into a hesitation. Mollie offers each buyer the methods their country uses, in 29 currencies, and renews a plan on the mandate the first payment leaves behind.
- One API key, nothing to register. Paste the profile’s Test or Live key; the key’s prefix decides the mode, and a key that contradicts the mode is refused on save. Subscriby tells Mollie where to send each notification, so there is no webhook to set up.
- Verified before it counts. Mollie’s notifications are unsigned by design, so Subscriby reads every payment back from Mollie with your own key before anything is recorded, and refuses a notification whose payment does not match the purchase it names.
- Renewals on a mandate. The first payment leaves a mandate: a card renews on the card, PayPal on the PayPal account, and iDEAL or Bancontact on the bank account behind them through SEPA Direct Debit. Subscriby starts a Mollie subscription on that mandate at the plan’s full price from the day the paid period ends, and Mollie charges every cycle.
- Coupons on both plan shapes. The coupon reduces the first payment; the subscription then renews at the plan’s full price.
- Refunds and chargebacks issued in your Mollie dashboard are recorded once each: a full refund ends the membership, a partial one leaves access alone.
Everywhere Else You Work
- The portal and the bot offer both at checkout wherever the plan’s currency allows, beside every other method you switched on, and the buyer picks one.
- The REST API, the webhooks, the MCP tools, Zapier and n8n know both providers:
polarandmollieare provider values on payment methods, subscriptions and payments, and the refund, past-due, activation and cancellation events fire for them as they do for Stripe. - Subscriby’s fee works as it does for every gateway other than Stripe: nothing is deducted at the charge, and each fee is a line of your Transaction Fees ledger, invoiced as usage on your own plan.
- The marketing site has a page for each, with the countries, the methods buyers pay with and the setup steps: Polar and Mollie.
Getting Started
Two steps for either, in the order a first connection takes them:
- Polar. In your Polar dashboard, under Settings, Developers, create an organization access token with the scopes the Polar guide lists. In Subscriby, open Payment Methods, Setup a Payment Method, pick Polar, paste the token, mark it active and save. Then choose Sync Subscription Plans from the method’s menu: your plans appear in Polar and the webhook is registered for you.
- Mollie. In your Mollie dashboard, enable the payment methods you want to offer on the website profile, then copy its API key under Developers, API keys. In Subscriby, pick Mollie, paste the key, mark it active and save. Nothing to sync and nothing to register: share your portal link and the next member who pays by iDEAL is in. The Mollie guide has the rest.
Either runs beside Stripe, PayPal or any other method on the same project; a member sees every active method whose currency matches the plan and picks the one they trust.
What Comes Next
Every gateway Subscriby connects follows one rule, and these two are no exception: the money lands in your own account, and Subscriby keeps the membership in step with what the gateway reports. More rails follow where our creators’ members are. Tell us which one you are missing: a reply to any Subscriby email reaches a person, and so does the support inbox in the dashboard.
Go and connect one: app.subscriby.net, then Payment Methods in your project.
