Payment Methods

Payment Methods for Paid Communities

Cards, PayPal, local rails, crypto and the platform's own currency: switch on the methods your members already use, as many as you like, and every one of them is offered at checkout.

Every way a member can pay you

A paid community lives or dies at the checkout. Subscriby offers 8 payment methods, from card gateways to each platform's native in-app currency, and a project can switch on as many as it likes: at checkout a member sees every active method whose currency matches the plan, and picks the one they trust.

Four of them renew a plan on their own: Stripe, PayPal, Paystack and Razorpay. The rest take one-time charges, which suits lifetime plans, passes and fixed periods. Where your members live decides the rest: cards and wallets through Stripe and PayPal for a global audience, UPI through Razorpay in India, local rails through Paystack in Africa, USDT through CeyPay in Sri Lanka, and coins through CoinPayments anywhere.

Each page below states where the method's merchants may be, what its buyers pay with, whether it renews, whether it has a test mode and how it is connected, then answers the questions creators ask before switching it on.

How to choose

01

Renewing or one-time?

A monthly or yearly plan needs Stripe, PayPal, Paystack or Razorpay, the four that charge the next cycle on their own. Skrill, CoinPayments, CeyPay and a native currency take one payment per purchase.

02

Where do your members live?

Start with the method your members already have: cards and PayPal for most of the world, UPI and netbanking in India, cards, bank transfer and mobile money in Africa, a wallet for a crypto audience.

03

Switch on more than one

Every active method whose currency matches the plan is offered at checkout. Stripe beside PayPal covers a global audience; add Razorpay for Indian members, Paystack for African ones, CoinPayments for the wallet holders. Nobody should be unable to pay.

04

Price in the right currency

A member sees the methods whose currency matches the plan. Price a plan in naira for Paystack, in a coin for CoinPayments, in the platform's currency for its native payment; a plan carries one currency, so create a second plan for a second currency.

05

Test before you sell

Every gateway has a test or sandbox mode you can run beside the live one; Skrill's depends on your account, and only a platform's native currency is live only. Walk through a purchase yourself before a member does.

06

Know the two fees

The gateway charges its own fee on every payment, and your Subscriby plan sets a transaction fee that does not vary by method. On Stripe it is deducted at the charge for accounts in most countries; on the other gateways, and on Stripe accounts in Brazil, India, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, it is invoiced as usage.

Common Questions

01

How many payment methods can one project use?

As many as you switch on. Each active method whose currency matches the plan is offered at checkout, and the member picks one.

02

Which methods renew a subscription automatically?

Stripe, PayPal, Paystack and Razorpay. Skrill, CoinPayments, CeyPay and a platform's native currency take one-time charges, for lifetime plans, passes and fixed periods.

03

Does Subscriby charge a different fee per gateway?

No. Your plan's transaction fee is the same whichever method a member pays through; the gateway's own fee is on top and is the gateway's. On Stripe the Subscriby fee is deducted at the charge for accounts in most countries; elsewhere, and on the other gateways, it is invoiced as usage.

04

Can I test a method before going live?

Every gateway except a platform's native currency has a test or sandbox mode, and a test method can run beside its live twin. Stripe is the easiest place to start, with documented test cards.

05

What if a member's currency is not one my methods take?

The member pays in the plan's currency; their card issuer or PayPal converts it at their own rate. Price the plan in the currency your main method settles in, or create a second plan in another currency for the members who need it.
